Alessandra Fiocca

 

Biography

Alessandra Fiocca (Conegliano TV 1953) graduated in Mathematics at the University of Ferrara (1975, cum laude). She has been researcher at the University of Ferrara and since 2001 she is professor at the same University (Facoltà di Scienze Matematiche, Fisiche e Naturali). She teaches Calculus and also Divulgation of Mathematics.

 

For ten years she also taught Epistemology and History of Mathematics in the Scuola di Specializzazione per l’Insegnamento Secondario (SSIS). She was “borsista” of the Consiglio Nazionale delle Ricerche and Visiting Scholar at the University of California in Los Angeles (1993-94).

 

She organized some important congresses with the editions of the Proceedings: “Giambattista Aleotti e gli Ingegneri del Rinascimento” (Ferrara 1996); “Arte e scienza delle acque nel Rinascimento” (Bologna 2001). Her research interests are in the field of the history of Mathematics and her scientific publications concern the mathematical culture in Italy in the XVI century, the hydraulic problem of the river Reno from XVI century to XIX century, the first diffusion of descriptive geometry in Italy, the history of the mathematical teaching at the University of Ferrara. Recently, she is involved in a research on the mathematician Guglielmo Libri.
