Rainer Graefe

 

Biography

Born 1941 in Berlin. 1969 Magister Artium (“Idee des Bauhaus-Theaters“). 1976 Dr. phil. (“Roman theater vela”).

 

Since 1969 reserching, editing and teaching at the Institute of Lightweight Structures (Prof. Frei Otto) of the University of Stuttgart, since 1971 within the Sonderforschungsbereich “Weitgespannte Flächentragwerke” of the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft; 1984 establishing and managing the research project “Geschichte des Konstruierens” (history of constructing) within the Sonderforschungsbereich “Natürliche Konstruktionen”.

 

1991 full professor at the faculty of architecture of the University of Innsbruck, head of the Institute of Architectural History and Preservation.

 

2003 award of the Suchov gold medal by ESEA (Union of Scientific and Engineering Associations) and AES (A.A. Prochorov – Academy of Engineering Sciences) in Moscow 2005 founding and managing of the Archiv für Baukunst (archive for architecture and structural engineering) of the University of Innsbruck.

 

2008 dean of the architecture faculty of the University of Innsbruck.

 

2008 doctorate honoris causa of the University of architecture and civil engineering, Nižnij Novgorod. Main research field: development of historical building constructions. Prof. Dr. Rainer Graefe Lehrstuhl für Baugeschichte und Denkmalpflege Architekturfakultät der Universität Innsbruck Technikerstraße 21 A-6020 Innsbruck
